SLM publishes coverage survey for local TV in Saxony 2024

Local and regional media play a central role in providing information to citizens in our political system. In doing so, they make a significant contribution to preserving our democracy. The rise of platforms such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and others has made it increasingly difficult to finance local journalism. Not only are these platforms largely unregulated, but they also often disseminate content that is considered harmful to democracy. To strengthen the role of local media, the Free State of Saxony supports these media with funding programs.

House of Research has now conducted a recent study on behalf of the Saxon State Media Authority (SLM) to examine the reach of local TV programs in Saxony. With a sample size of around 5,500 interviews conducted both by telephone (based on the ADM master sample) and online, this study is representative of both the federal state of Saxony and each of its eight “cultural areas” as defined in the Saxon Cultural Area Act (SächsKRG).

Further information on the study “Reichweitenerhebung Lokal-TV Sachsen 2024” (Local TV Reach Survey Saxony 2024) and the PDF report can be obtained free of charge from the SLM.
